Crock Pot Vanilla Cake

Our oven is down until our new one arrives next week. That means the appliances are in full swing!! And since crock pot meals aren't my husbands favorite I always like to make a little dessert for him to make up for my need for easy throw it in and forget about it meals. 

Aldi has been having some amazing healthy finds, it's excited to see what's new every week! Last week they had organic cake mixes. My husband loves a good vanilla cake, moist and no frosting. I consider that more of a sweet bread but what does it matter? I love sweets any way you slice them! They were pretty cheap compared to earth fare prices to I grabbed a couple. Fast forward to my oven dilemma and I turned to the sum of all things unique and practical (Pintrest) only to find that I couldn't find a simple answer to my question. There were crock pot marble cakes, angel food cake, devils food cake, pineapple upside down cake, chocolate lava cake... Can I just use vanilla cake mix in the crock pot? No extra water or pudding or fruit? Are all those things added because who is going to go through the trouble of baking a plain vanilla cake in the crock pot? And who cares to pin that? Just put it in your oven, what is wrong with you? 

Well I'm here to tell you that the answer is YES! Yes all those things are just added for people's preferences and yes you can use a cake mix prepared according to the package and just bake it in the crock pot!! It takes about 2 hours covered on high. When I stuck the knife in the check it, there was water in the middle but all the cake was cooked. As we let it cool it must have evaporated. It was so moist and yummy!! I was so excited that it turned out, but when I asked my Kevin to try it he said it was good...you know like when your voice goes high and then back down just to be polite...

What's wrong with it??? (Ok so maybe I am making lemonade out of not having an oven but really I'm a little stressed by the curve ball it put on my new meal plans I was trying to implement)

He said it tasted a little like corn bread. Turns out, when I left the house it turned back into a normal cake because there was only a sliver left when I came home 😃. It tasted better when it cooled down. I actually think it was a texture issue. I though it was always yummy but I am easy to please! 

Mix favorite cake mix according to package. 

Oil or flour crock pot liberally 

Pour in cake mix, cover, and cook on hight for 2 hours or until center looks done. Allow to cool in crock pot or remove the bowl from base. 

I served it from the bowl.
